- A violation that occurs when a player with the ball walks, runs or takes too many steps without dribbling.
- A player is allowed two steps after picking up the dribble, and after two steps, the player must keep an established pivot foot to the floor.
- Also, when a player dives for a loose ball on the floor and gains possession, a player can't roll over or attempt to stand.
- The player that commits the violation is charged with a turnover.
- Contact is part of basketball provided it's while performing normal defensive and offensive duties, reaching for a loose ball, or otherwise provided that the contact doesn't allow a player to gain an advantage on the play.
- A field goal made taken from before the three-point line, which is worth two points.
- A field goal made taken from behind the three-point line, which is worth three points. It is sometimes known as a "three-pointer" and often abbreviated as "3FG".
- When a player commits a personal foul (any foul that is not a technical foul or a flagrant foul) while the person is not in the act of shooting, the opposing team gains possession of the ball to inbound it from the out-of-bounds area that is closest to the spot of the foul.
- When a player commits a personal foul while the person is in the act of shooting, the opposing player who draws the foul is awarded two free throws if his two-point field goal attempt misses and three free throws if his three-point field goal attempt misses.
- If the field goal attempt is made when the opposing player draws a foul, he is awarded the points and one free throw.
